A cold day in England offers no better opportunity to visit a traditional fish and chip chop, something British people seem particularly indulgent at.
What do Sydney and Whitby have in Common?
Captain James Cook of course! A son of Whitby, North Yorkshire.
We visited a lovely fish and chip restaurant called 'Graveleys' in the center of the delightful town.
Now this is not the healthiest meal - but the fish was fresh and the mushy peas - were different to what we were used to.
We could look out at Whitby harbour and were warm and looked out at two locals playing in the sea - fully clothed in 9 degree weather. Yes they are tough and weather beaten people in Whitby!!
The waiting staff were friendly and we arrived at 2pm so it was very quiet.
The cups of tea revived us and we walked around the town to work off the stodgy food!
We didn't indulge in the Cakes. Next time maybe!! If we are ever back in Whitby!
Treacle sponge or Bread and butter pudding. How English!
We highly recommend this place for a refuge from the temperamental English Weather!
Enjoy walking around the lovely quaint old shops in Whitby!
